First off - the place is really easy to drive by. It is really small, standing on it's own. Interior seating is only 4 booths and a small table. We were surprised by how small and out of the way it is... BUT IT IS TOTALLY WORTH FINDING! I had the pastrami burger (excellent!), my wife had the "Shaun Special" and loved it, our sons had other burgers and loved them as well. They had run out of the English Fries so we couldn't try those, but my wife says the cheesy tater tots were delicious. Warning - they also have ice cream. Lots of flavors of scooped ice cream, plus soft serve, and shakes. So don't overdue it on the burgers and fries... Leave room!

I was in the mood for fish and chips and this hit the spot. It's very small and was pretty crowded the day I went. I ordered my fish and chips and they were fine, certainly less expensive than other places. And they had malt vinegar which is mandatory for me! It was about 530pm in the afternoon I was there and I noticed that it there were a few flies inside the building. I guess it's hard to control them but I'm just kind of creeped out by flies. I just moved to Salt Lake from Las Vegas, and while Vegas has many of it's own creepy-crawlies, the dry heat in the city eliminates most of the flies and mosquitoes. Can I tell you about the time I saw a scorpion crawling on my bedroom wall? At any rate, Hook and Ladder is good for Fish and Chips. They have ice cream cones and shakes, which I didn't try but the prices were very low.

Fish and chips!!! I tried their fish and English chips and dude, you gotta try the English chips. They're thin square pieces of potato seasoned like potato wedges. I also tried their regular fries and their cheesy tater tots which were both awesome too but if I had to rank the potatoes, it would go English fries, cheesy tots, and then regular fries. My friends also ordered the churro split. Some of us thought the churro would get soggy but it was super crunchy underneath the ice cream. I would definitely recommend trying one of those!

I found this place while looking for a place that sells pastrami burgers for a competition. Now I go out of my way to go there because this place is so delicious!

This was a fun place. The staff is extremely nice. Love it when they call me "dear" or "honey". Makes me feel like I'm at home! Good prices and a very cozy place. Burger was pretty good, but the banana shake was A-MAZING. Fresh slices of banana on top. If you go here, it's a must.

Way cool place, great fish and chips. Super nice staff, reminds me of old fashioned neighborhood hangouts. Highly recommend.

There were more flies in this place than on a carcass on the side of the road in summertime. I was disappointed at the number of flies inside this establishment. Flies come from maggots, maggots come from eggs, eggs come from flies. I don't know where the heck these flies originated as there were no apparent permanent openings connecting the inside to outside. There were a couple of doors and a window but they were not propped open. Needless to say the "flyage" overshadowed the taste and possible quality, or lack their of, of the food. The fries were lukewarm and I was afraid that they were walked on by flies. Too bad as this place is close to the house and the prices were not too bad, I guess you get what you pay for and at this place it might be a fly born disease.

I ordered the Mushroom Bacon Burger. Flavor was spot on. Wish the burger patty was a little thicker. Fry sauce was good. Will eat here again

I work around the corner from here and I've recently tried this placed out. I had the fish and chips and it is now my go to place for fish and chips. It's pretty good and it's only seven bucks.

I'm kicking myself for not coming here sooner. I'm always on the hunt for the best cheeseburger and this place nears perfection. I got the mushroom bacon burger with fries and an Oreo Shake thinking I would take it home to eat. I got in my car, took one whiff of the fries and leveled that shit in about 48 seconds. No shame. I'm a sucker for sesame buns and theirs was on point. My only regret-I didn't notice they had English chips until after I had paid. Next time. Friendly service, price was right, stimulating interior....I'm a fan.

Read about Hook & Ladder here on Yelp and just had to try the fish and chips and hamburger that everyone keeps on talking about. it is a bit of a dive but the folks are friendly and helpful. We went at lunch time so the place was very busy but the service help remain helpful and friendly. We got our fish and chips and they were awesome, not crazy about the fries so will order the English style chips next time. The bacon cheese hamburger was very good and will get it again. Can't wait to share this place with friends. It is a bit of a hole in the wall but food is good, prices are fair, location is good, plenty of parking, and staff awesome.

Hook and Ladder serves drive-in fare, very similar to Millie's. It's such a bargain though, and really quite delicious! The banana shake actually had a generous amount of banana in it, A+! I couldn't complain about the burger and fries either! This is a neighborhood gem in Glendale!

Small place. They don't post their hours so you never know when they're open. Not open on Sundays. Their burgers are ok. Their fish and chips are the best I've had there.

As far as burger joints go, this place is fantastic! All of the burgers are amazing and the staff is really nice. It is a little small if you are eating in, but the food is so good, it doesn't matter!

A lot of times, going into a place, before I even place an order, a place will start to gravitate to a certain rating with me. This particular place, based solely on the incredible ambiance and space, was a solid 4 before I so much as looked at the menu. Once I did and saw the sort of distressed menu sign and the hand-lettered custom signs advertising various combos everywhere, it hit the right touch of nostalgia and kitsch. In short, the decor and everything about this place, even though it is cramped (very dinky inside) and jam-packed with stuff, is right up my alley. Of course, my immediate worry became then that it wouldn't live up to this glorious level on the food front. As it turned out, I thankfully needn't have worried, but it was touch and go for a while. I got the Mushroom Bacon Burger and the sweet potato fries. The fries were well-cooked on a level beyond any I've had in the last 5 years, at least, but the breading they put on it was a touch salty for my taste. The burger was very plain and unassuming in the while styrofoam clamshell, but a couple bites in and I was in heaven. This is good on a Best Burger level and the entire place is what Millie's or JCW's should be, but isn't. While those miss the target wildly, this place hits on all cylinders, from the incredibly friendly wait staff, to the eclectic clientele, apparently all regulars, who wander in and on from there. That burger...the bacon was nearly an entire meat level by itself (and I'm debating making it a double next time, just to get more of that delicious burger taste), cooked to the point of perfection. and the mushrooms added that nice bit of ooomph. Slightly oversalty or not, I ate every one of those fries, which is something I haven't been able to say for quite some time. It's also cheap. Even with tip, I was still under a $10 spot, so the value is very high. In point of fact, I almost had to stop my car halfway through my burger to kick my own ass for working so close to this place for so long without every trying it. In fact, that ass-kicking even now is not entirely out of the question. I definitely have to give a nod of the head and tip of the hat to Yelp for motivating me to get out there and try it (I've built entire lists from this site). I now have a new lunch spot (definitely going to try to work my way through the menu).

I used to go to Hook & Ladder when I was a kid, going to Glendale Intermediate. They had good food then and 17 years later, it's even better! I got the 1/4 lb cheeseburger and fries. Fry sauce was SO good! I am so picky about fry sauce, I hate when restaurants mess with it. This is just good, old fashioned fry sauce. The burger... OH MY. SOOOOOO Yummy. The bun was buttery and soft. The burger cooked perfectly. Just the right amount of pickles, lettuce and mustard. And the fries.. yum, just yum. Thank you for a wonderful lunch, I enjoyed it!

For what it is, this place is quite tasty and very inexpensive. The fish and chips are good, as is the shrimp and chips. Nice extra touch with the warm toasted/buttered roll. A classic greasy-spoon joint that is certainly worth the prices that they charge.

I really wanted to like the Hook & Ladder. And in some ways, I did. It's a very small space, but it has a wonderful local burger joint vibe. The guy behind the counter was friendly and welcoming. It has an alluring menu with all the standards: burgers, hot dogs, fish and chips, fries, onion rings, shakes. But as always, I came for a bacon cheeseburger combo meal. Reasons that Hook & Ladder Co. Fire Station No. 13 is not a contender for my burger bucks: (1) The patty was tasty, but small. (2) There was only one strip of bacon; thin, and broken in half. I could barely taste any bacon flavor. This is a major issue for me. (3) The toppings were meager in portion and quality. (4) There were no condiments available on the tables. I had to ask for mustard and ketchup. (5) The fries were pretty good, but were served with a single container of fry sauce, and if you "hook it up" and get a larger portion, you run out of sauce half way through. (7) No self-serve fountain from which to get a second helping of my beloved Minute Maid Lemonade. Two stars for the BCburger combo meal. An extra star for the firehouse kitsch and the optimistic belief that the rest of the menu would taste better. If you haven't tried a bacon cheeseburger at Olympus Burger in Midvale on 900 East, I implore you to do so. They have everything Hook & Ladder does not. Large patty, several thick slices of smokey bacon, great toppings, hot crispy fries, and a self-serve condiment bar and fountain. Get all you want. I heart Olympus Burger.

The place itself is very small. It has a total of 5 booths and some tables for eating outside. There is a good vibe to the place and I am optimistic about my #9 combo (large bacon cheese with fries and a coke for under $6.). The burger was smaller than I had expected but still really good. The fries are the thick cut variety and were cooked to the perfect crispiness. A side of fry sauce was included. The regular drink was only about 12 - 14 oz but you can "hook t up" for a larger drink and fry for .99 cents. Quality to Price........ 4 stars Quantity to Price...... 3 stars "Pieces of Flair"...... 5 stars Variety....................... 4 stars Overall 3 stars, but with future visits planned that may increase as I sample other items. (P.S. I wasn't thrilled when I was charged another .50 cents for a refill but since this is a mom and pop joint I'll let it slide.)

Here it is my Fridays lunch fire station... I recomend the pastrami burger. I love their fries and the onion rings. In my opinion quantity of food is enough, but poor if you eat in big quantities. I like relation quality-price-quantity, but I'm sorry, I hate the way the place smells... fried plague? They never open the doors to help its ventilation and after been there, your clothes smell like burning oil. The guys working there are very kind, they help you in your choice and try to be friendly. Its decoration is quite remakable, with corious fire objects and even a truck outside!! The jukebox is pretty old!! It's a place that can be good to eat whenever you are around, but honestly, I wouldn't go from the other side of SLC just to taste their burgers...

This place has it all. A vast menu with delicious burgers, chicken and miscellany, friendly staff, video games, and it's locally owned. It used to be a firehouse so it has a unique history. I love it.

Another Awesome ma and pop burger joint in Salt Lake City and another reason to stay away from the big chain burger joints! I stop by Hook and Ladder when I am in the area and I am looking for a quick and awesome burger. I highly recommend the bacon burgers and the pastrami burger. Yes, they had pastrami burgers way before Carl's Jr. ever thought of pastrami burgers. Probably 20 years before. I also recommend the English chips and the onion rings here. Both are to die for. I don't think they grind their own meat, but the patties seem hand pressed. So, why, if it is soooo good do I only give it three stars? Well, it is small inside and can get crowded and slow during peak hours. I would say that they have seating for 10 inside and while it is clean, you wonder how clean. The decor is firehouse kitsch. different and cool. It is a typical greasy ma and pop burger joint and it is worth a visit, so check it out. Make sure you order the onion rings!
